Ossie Clark-Now and Then

A few nights ago, I was watching Steve McQueens biography (updated to add:the programme name was Steve McQueen:The Essence of Cool, ITV4) on TV and Ali McGraw was featured in part of the show. She gave me inspiration to do an Ossie Clark post, but I wasn't sure how to incorporate it. Wonderful Silje had exactly the same idea to feature Ali, unbeknown to me-our 6th sense at work again and she has already done a stunning 70s post, currently on show-do check it out for gorgeous pictures of her and 70s icons, showing how fabulous 70s vintage fashion is!

Anyway, I wanted to show how legendary Ossie Clarks collections were and still are-what better way than to show you past and present famous fashionistas wearing his clothes-enjoy!!!

Hi Sharon!
Please could you tell me the name of the show? I love biography and the english productions are the best in this sense.
Ali MCGraw is one of my favourite fashion icons and i love her beautiful yellow dress in Love Story.
Love.

Lovely post, Sharon. 70s fashion is totally growing on me, especially after seeing the first few pictures. H&M Fall Collection is contributing to it all quite well, too. And, yes, you and Silje. Amazing.

Hi Alice-the documentary was on English channel ITV4 and it was mainly narrated by Steves 1st wife, Neile and his son Chad, with clips from all his major films-I'm really sorry, but I haven't got a TV guide to check out the exact name of it. From what I can remember, it was made in about 2005-it was very good indeed. I agree, Ali is divine and certainly looks wonderful in these pictures!! Sorry I couldn't help more-if I find it out, I'll let you know!!

Hi Ida-thanks so much for your lovely comment, I'm such a fan of vintage and love to show everyone else too!

Thanks for the comment.

Its great this designer has carried on with the grace and flow of the dresses through the decades.

Great post.

Hi ellie-thanks for your comment-yes Ossie pieces are original vintage items that stand the test of time beautifully.

Hi Sharon, such a great post! I really did not know that that dress Sienna was wearing was Ossie, but it is gorgous. Ali is my favorite,in the first picture, so incredibly beautiful. Thats why I chose that pic as well.I also love the print on the dress Cathy McGowan is wearing. I do understand your passion for his clothes, they simply are marvelous pieces to any collectors dream. Of course I thought about you when I wrote about that skarf today, so fun to get to share our "sixth sense" buys, haha! Have a great weekend Sharon!

Hi Wendy-thanks so much, its nice to show off Ossie's creations!!

The Steve McQueen bio programme is fab and it was made in 2005. I love Steve McQueen films.
Your choice of Ali is spot on she is heads above the rest even with your beloved Mr Clark's frocks one she wins over the rest!

Hi fashion chalet-thanks so much my dear!!

Hi couture carrie-a lovely comment, thanks so much!! yes, doesn't Ali look divine!!

Hey Sharon!

I love the dresses Ali McGraw, Sienna Miller, Rachel Weisz and Keira Knightley are wearing. They look really lovely!

However, I think Geri Halliwell and Jessica Simpson are just too short to pull off those long, voluminous dresses. Even though the dresses are beautiful, they really overpower their diminutive frames and make them look even shorter.

Thanks for the compliment on the haircomb I made! You're always so lovely :) I hope you're having a great day darling!

I love the Ali pics, Ossie Clark dresses are amazing...and one day I will own one...but I'm not feeling the Jessica Simpson dress. I just don't think it suits her.

I like Keira Knightley's dress, but I'm not sure if it's something I would wear, because of the shoulders.

Arielle said...

Hi danz-hope you are feeling better!! Thanks for your lovely comment-I do agree about Geri and jessica-they're not really doing the dresses justice, I think!! Have a great weekend, my friend!!

Hi always in style-yes, I agree with you too about jessica!! Thanks my dear-if you do get one, be sure to show me-haha!!

Hi b-yes, its a lovely dress!!

Hi arielle-yes, just right for her!

Hi alison-thanks my dear!!

Hi thetinylittlegirl-yes, I love this one too!

Hi eleh-its a great dress, I think she needed just a touch more height to pull it off-she's just got away with it!

This is such a wonderful post. It's funny, these clothes look so much better now, than they did during that time (or is it just me?) Ali looks great but my favorite is Twiggy! That is such a smooth and edgy outfit. I love it!

Sharon Rose said...

Hi cheryl Lynn-thanks so much, my dearest!! Yes, twiggy was definitely the right person to model this-its called the Lamborghini suit!!

fashion herald said...

i adore the twiggy tunic and pants!

Sharon Rose said...

Hi fashion herald-yes, this is such an iconic outfit!!

I love Ali Mcgraws and Keira's. They are so pretty and well fitted. I don't think Jessica Simpson looks that good in that dress, it doesn't suit her. Cool post!

Hi leslie and pam-I think you're spot on with your opinions-thanks for stopping by too!
